2025

Calgary is a vibrant and growing community, and with that growth comes increased demand on our healthcare system. Rising population pressures are contributing to longer surgical wait times and limited access to some of the most advanced procedures available worldwide. For patients facing complex and life-threatening conditions, timely access to leading-edge care can make all the difference. Thanks to our donors, Calgary Health Foundation is supporting the integration of a state-of-the-art biplane fluoroscopy system in a hybrid operating room at Foothills Medical Centre—an investment that will transform what is possible for patients across Southern Alberta. This equipment will enable complex intercranial vascular procedures that are currently unavailable locally, ensuring patients can receive world-class care close to home. Designed to support minimally invasive procedures, biplane fluoroscopy offers real-time, high-resolution imaging to guide surgeons with extraordinary precision. Biplane fluoroscopy provides simultaneous visualization from two angles, giving surgical teams a dynamic, three-dimensional understanding of a patient’s internal anatomy during surgery. This level of accuracy allows even the most intricate interventions to be completed safely and efficiently in one integrated experience. Expanding surgical capacity with world-class technology

For patients with conditions such as stroke, brain aneurysms, or traumatic injuries, this technology can save lives. By combining advanced imaging and surgery in a single space, care teams can reduce time under anesthesia, lower procedural risks, and accelerate treatment during critical moments when every second counts. This $2.7 million investment represents a bold step forward for Calgary’s healthcare system. It will expand surgical capacity, support innovation in intercranial vascular procedures, and help attract and retain top surgical talent, strengthening care for generations to come. Most importantly, it ensures that when families are facing their most difficult moments, they do not need to leave their city to find hope. With the support of our donors, Calgary can lead in advanced surgical care, delivering the safest, most effective treatments and giving more patients the chance to recover, return home, and reclaim their lives.
